Amanda Maternity | South Boston MA Boudoir Photographer

Amanda is a fun and vibrant expectant mother from South Boston. She connected with me through a referral from one of my previous boudoir photography clients. Her initial inquiry was for maternity photography services to capture an incredible moment in her life: she was pregnant with her first child, a sweet baby boy. But after I perused Amanda’s inspiration photos, I quickly realized that her photographic style wasn’t so much traditional maternity as it was elegant boudoir – my specialty. In this article, you can discover all the details about Amanda’s maternity boudoir photography session. The snowy arrival for the Maternity Boudoir SessionOn the day of Amanda’s session, it was snowing. It wasn’t a blizzard, but there was enough of a dusting to touch the nerves of an already anxious mom-to-be. However, moments after stepping through my studio door, Amanda was relaxed and open to a beautiful new experience. Right away, I could tell that Amanda is a natural beauty. She’s one of those women who oozes calm and coolness without having to try too hard. Add a gorgeous layer of pregnancy glow to the mix – and she becomes utterly breathtaking. However, Amanda admitted she carried some insecurities about her ever-changing body, even in her quest to document the miraculous creation of life (during a pandemic). As with all my boudoir photography clients, we talked through her fears so that I understood how to reveal her truest and most beautiful self. Before the Boudoir Photography SessionJust before the boudoir photography session began, we reviewed the outfits she brought, discussing how each one would photograph and the best sets to make them shine. We selected an open white kimono for a relaxing bedroom set and a light blue backdrop that photographed so well that we used it again with her sheer black lace dress. Nothing says baby boy like light blue! Amanda also brought a luxurious vintage fur belonging to her aunt, perfect for a cold winter’s day. When it came time for the outdoor shot with Amanda wrapped in fur – and not much else – she was a trooper despite the chilly weather. The final set featured Amanda’s shadow silhouette in front of a naturally lit window with flowing white sheers.Throughout Amanda’s hour-long boudoir photography session, we had a lot of fun together. She delicately embraced her growing belly in every shot and even shared that her mother, a former CoverGirl® model, had given Amanda tips on how to pose her mouth, a technique she exquisitely mastered! After the boudoir photography session, ‘It finally feels real’ After the boudoir photography session, something interesting happened for Amanda. It wasn’t until we took the photos that it really hit her: she’s having a baby! There’s actually a baby growing inside her. She said, “I obviously knew I was pregnant, but it wasn't until I dedicated time to myself – in front of a camera and mirror – that I realized I was about to become a mom. I'm so happy to have had the opportunity to document the start of a major transformation, capturing my body that was creating a miracle – my son!” For the first time, Amanda was able to see herself in this spectacular moment of her life and recognize the miracle happening for her right now. I love the opportunity to create these epiphanies for women – allowing them to see themselves as others see them or capture a memorable phase of their life that always slips by too quickly. As a boudoir photographer, that’s the pure sweetness in doing what I do.Post-session revelationsWithin a couple of weeks after Amanda’s session, I sent her an online gallery of her edited photos to select the ones that spoke to her the most. She graciously allowed me to use some of them on my website and social media channels to inspire other moms-to-be to consider a maternity boudoir photography session. Thank you, Amanda! When asked if she’d do a boudoir photography shoot again, Amanda’s said she “definitely” would. She also offered her advice to anyone hesitant: “Lean into the uncomfortableness. Be vulnerable. The more you do, the more you learn about yourself.” She added, “Dana's genuine personality and uplifting, positive attitude made the energy in the room so approachable and welcoming. I was totally myself by letting go of my ego and doubt, and her way of shooting makes that easier. “For more of Amanda’s words and insights on what other women thought about their boudoir photography experience, check out our Raves page. Are you ready to embrace your vulnerability and discover the extraordinary beauty the rest of the world can see?
