Boston Area Boudoir Photographer!

I get a lot of raised eyebrows when I tell people that I’m a boudoir photographer. Most people think it’s a highly suggestive and even erotic artform – and it can be in some instances. But boudoir photography doesn’t have to be that risqué. In fact, none of my sessions fall into that category. Instead, I help women strike a beautiful balance between sensuality and tasteful elegance no matter their stage of life or whether they choose to cover up or slip into a sexy number. In this article, I’ll take a deeper dive into boudoir photography, providing a glimpse into what it is – and what it isn’t. I’ll also highlight the many styles that make this photographic style one of my favorites to shoot and give you a snapshot of what to expect from the experience.Defining boudoir photographyThe term boudoir is French for a comfortable and luxurious woman’s dressing room, bedroom, or private sitting room common among the upper class in the 18th century. This intimate setting forms the backdrop for the soft and romantic shots that give boudoir photography its appeal.Wikipedia defines boudoir photography as:“A photographic style featuring intimate, sensual, romantic, and sometimes erotic images of its subjects in a photographic studio, bedroom or private dressing room environment, primarily intended for the private enjoyment of the subjects and their romantic partners.”Boudoir differs from nude photography in the following ways:

  • It’s sensual and romantic, not sexually explicit
  • It features real women, not models
  • It produces images for personal use, not for distribution to a broad audience
